Sol Chin

Sol Chin is establishing herself as one of the distinguished young Asian conductors, building a reputation for her diverse and enthusiastic performances on various stages. Born in Seoul, South Korea, she studied piano, composition, and vocal music under the tutelage of her parents, both music professors. She furthered her conducting studies at the Korea National University of Arts and the Mannheim University of Music and Performing Arts in Germany. During her time in Germany, the newspaper "Schwäbische" described her as "a promising rookie conductor with elegant baton technique."

After completing her studies, she conducted numerous orchestras, including the Philharmonie Baden-Baden, Kammerorchester Heilbronn, and Südwestdeutsche Philharmonie Konstanz in Germany, as well as the State Opera Plovdiv Orchestra in Bulgaria. In Korea, she has led the KBS Symphony Orchestra, Korean National Symphony Orchestra, National Orchestra of Korea, Gyeonggi Philharmonic, Bucheon Philharmonic, Daejeon Philharmonic, Pohang Philharmonic, and Jeonju Philharmonic. In 2019, she was invited twice by the Eskisehir Metropolitan Municipality Symphony Orchestra in Turkey for concerts that were completely sold out. The local media praised her performances as "an unforgettable festival of sound," and she was awarded a plaque of appreciation by the mayor of Eskisehir.

For many years, Sol Chin has demonstrated a remarkable ability to conduct and understand contemporary music, including concertos for soloists and orchestra. She has been invited to lead performances at major contemporary music festivals in Korea, such as the ARKO Korean Contemporary Music Festival, Daegu International Contemporary Music Festival, ACC International Composition Competition, and the Korean Chamber Music Composition Festival. Additionally, she is known as the Artistic Director and CEO of FLASIC, a startup platform specializing in planning and producing game music orchestra concerts. Through FLASIC, she has forged official partnerships with prominent global game companies, including Blizzard Entertainment, NCSoft, Nexon, Kakao Games, Gravity, and Pokémon Korea. She has also launched a campaign for copyright protection, raising awareness of intellectual property rights among artists.

Her achievements have led to invitations to "CBS Sebasi," one of Korea’s most popular lecture TV shows, the "EBS Documentary Prime" program, and a TV commercial for IBK Industrial Bank, Korea's fifth-largest bank. In 2023, Sol Chin was honored with the 15th Hong Jin-Ki Creator Award in the Culture and Arts category, recognizing her contributions to game music orchestras and her leadership in promoting intellectual property awareness. This prestigious award celebrates individuals who exemplify creativity and innovation in their respective fields.

Since 2016, Sol Chin has led the project "Mahlerian," which aims to perform all of Gustav Mahler’s symphonies. She previously served as Chief Conductor of the Daegu International Symphony Orchestra and as Conductor of the KNIGA (Korea National Institute for the Gifted in Arts) Orchestra. Currently, she is an Adjunct Professor at Korea National University of Arts and the Artistic Director of the Artisee Orchestra. Recently, she conducted the Berliner Symphoniker at the Terneuzen Festival and the Amsterdam Concertgebouw in the Netherlands, as well as the Severoceska Filharmonie at the Rudolfinum Dvořák Hall in Prague, Czech Republic. She also organized and conducted collaboration concerts between the Artisee Orchestra and the L’appassionata Chamber Orchestra from Italy at the Seoul Arts Center and Lotte Concert Hall in Seoul, Korea.
